Since the 18th Communist Party of China (CPC) National Congress, the CPC Central Committee, with Xi Jinping at its core, has sought to steadily improve whole-process people's democracy.

Xi has noted that there are many diverse ways to realize democracy. In China's system, there is a political organization called the Chinese People's Political Consultative Conference (CPPCC). CPPCC members come from various walks of life and ethnic groups. One of their key duties is to carry out studies and surveys on issues of public concern, report on social conditions and public sentiment, and then put forward opinions and suggestions to the Party and the government.

Labor pain is probably the most severe pain that women will experience in their lifetime. With the development of medical technology, labor analgesia came into being, which greatly reduced the pain of labor. Many people have called it "the light of mankind." At present, the labor analgesia rate in China is 53 percent. This has been driven by a painless labor proposal put forward by Dr Huang Yuguang, a CPPCC member.

In this video, American vlogger Marissa visits Huang at work at Peking Union Medical College Hospital to discover the story behind his proposal. Huang says that as a CPPCC member, he has the responsibility to represent the people's feelings, listen to public concerns and help people solve their problems.
