Although bamboo fish pots are seldom used in commercial fishing today, the traditional craft of weaving fish pots has been preserved as a local art form at Thu Sy village in the Red River Delta province of Hung Yen, Vietnam. Local craftspeople firstly split and whittle the bamboo into even, thin laths of different sizes and then weave them by hand. The finished products are later stacked on smokehouse shelves and smoked to enhance their durability.
