In recent years, Chinese reality shows have not only continued to optimize their content, but they have also ventured out onto the international stage. At the same time, international stars have also taken part and injected fresh vitality into Sino-Vietnamese cultural exchanges.
On June 14, 2023, Vietnamese singer Chi Pu celebrated her birthday on social media, garnering attention from such Chinese celebrities as Liu Yase, Choi Siu Fun, and Zhang Jiani. Chi Pu's popularity in China stems from her appearance in the 2023 Mango TV flagship variety show "Sisters Who Make Waves."

The show follows the accepted formula for group reality shows, but with the added twist that participants are already well-known or veteran celebrities aged 30 and above. The contestants spend three months living with each other while undergoing intense training.
With her outstanding singing and dancing skills and charming personality, Chi Pu quickly became a hot topic on the show.
Following the broadcast, Chi Pu gained a wide fan base across China and also drew the attention of Vietnamese audiences to the show. In April of this year, a Vietnamese cable television company collaborated with China's Mango TV to bring the show to Vietnam.
In October, the Vietnam edition of "Sisters Who Make Waves" aired on VTV3, featuring several top Vietnamese artists. The program achieved tremendous success, securing the top spot in Vietnamese reality show ratings during its premiere.

When discussing the reasons behind the popularity of the Vietnamese version, Chi Pu said she believed it was because the program closely followed the format of the original Chinese version, while every performance had been well-rehearsed.
With acclaimed and highly popular shows like "Sisters Who Make Waves" gaining widespread attention, Chinese reality show franchises are steadily setting sail overseas. This phenomenon also reflects the shift away from China being a global consumer to a global supplier of variety shows.
