Chinese President Xi Jinping on Wednesday held talks with Vietnamese President Vo Van Thuong in Hanoi.

Xi, also general secretary of the Communist Party of China (CPC) Central Committee, said this is the third state visit to Vietnam since he assumed the positions of general secretary of the CPC Central Committee and Chinese president. It is a return visit in response to General Secretary of the Communist Party of Vietnam Central Committee Nguyen Phu Trong's visit to China in October last year, and also marks the conclusion of his overseas visits this year, Xi added.

This fully demonstrates the special status of China-Vietnam relations within China's diplomatic framework, especially in the context of neighborhood diplomacy, Xi said.

Xi said he had a lengthy and in-depth exchange with Trong on Tuesday, jointly announcing to build a community with a shared future that carries strategic significance, and opening a new phase in developing relations between the two countries and the two parties.

This significant and historic decision by the leadership of both parties and countries emanates from the strategic perspective of the long-term development of China-Vietnam relations and the unity of socialist forces in the world, Xi said, adding that it aligns with the fundamental interests of both nations and follows the direction of the development of bilateral ties.
