Chinese Foreign Minister Wang Yi met with diplomats from members of the Association of Southeast Asian Nations (ASEAN) on Friday, talking about the relations between China and ASEAN countries and the conflict in northern Myanmar.
Wang said China has reached the consensus of building a community with a shared future with most ASEAN countries and will continue to be a reliable long-term comprehensive strategic partner of ASEAN.
Wang also pointed out that a temporary ceasefire agreement has been signed by relevant parties of the military conflict in northern Myanmar, adding that resolving the conflict meets the interest of all parties in Myanmar and is also beneficial to China and other ASEAN members.
The current problem in Myanmar is the country's internal matter, Wang stressed. The key to solving the problem lies in the hands of the people of Myanmar.
China wishes to work with ASEAN countries to help solve the problem properly, Wang said.
The ASEAN diplomats expressed their gratitude for China's support for the development of their countries. They also said they wish to boost multilateral communications with China.
Wang also exchanged opinions with the ambassadors on other global and regional matters of concern.
