The Miao group is one of the oldest ethnic groups in China, having its own language and a belief that everything has a "soul." The "Miao New Year" is the most important and grandest traditional festival for them.

On December 13, 2023, the first day of "Miao New Year" on the border of Guangxi and Guizhou, a lusheng – a mouth organ made of multiple bamboo pipes – competition was held in the Liujin Miao Village in Guangxi. Hundreds of lusheng teams joined the competition to see whose lusheng could produce the loudest sound, celebrating the "Miao New Year" and rejoicing in the bountiful harvest.
