President Xi elevates Digital Silk Road and modern agriculture in Guangxi

03:23

Chinese President Xi Jinping wrapped up a two-day tour in south China's Guangxi Zhuang Autonomous Region on Friday. He began his journey at the China-ASEAN Information Harbor in Guangxi's capital Nanning. It's the leader's second visit to the harbor in six years, highlighting the progress of the Digital Silk Road, an initiative designed to empower developing economies for the next industrial revolution. He then visited a residential community, where grassroots party members showcased e-government services. The Chinese president also explored a sugar cane plantation in the nearby city of Laibin, encouraging farmers and sugar companies to increase productivity by embracing automation and sustainable practices. President Xi's Guangxi journey follows a state visit to Vietnam, where agreements were reached on upgraded rail links and other infrastructure. It's hoped such developments will further increase China-ASEAN trade, which stood at $975 billion last year.
