The Detroit Lions beat the Denver Broncos 42-17 at Ford Field in Detroit, Michigan, on Saturday, to secure their 10th win of the 2023 National Football League (NFL) season.

Having become the fourth 10-win team in the National Football Conference (NFC) after the Philadelphia Eagles, the Dallas Mavericks and the San Francisco 49ers, the Lions are one step away from booking a spot in the playoffs.

The Lions' quarterback (QB) Jared Goff completed 24 of his 34 passes for 278 yards and five touchdowns with no interception. Tight end Sam LaPorta scored three of those touchdowns after connecting with Goff for five times. Wide receiver Amon-Ra St. Brown generated game-high 112 yards and one touchdown with seven catches.

Running back Jahmyr Gibbs was another Lion who made significant offensive contributions at home on Saturday night. He scored one receiving and one rushing touchdowns and ran for 100 yards with 11 carries. The excellent work he and David Montgomery together did in rushing eased off the pressure on Goff's shoulders. Though Goff hasn't been well-known as a deep passer, he found teammates within 10 yards with pinpoint.

The Broncos were dramatically outmatched by the Lions in both passing and rushing. They completed 28 carries, the same as their opponents, but only tallied 83 yards, not even half of what the Lions posted.

As the Broncos' QB, Russell Wilson threw 18-of-32 for 223 yards for one touchdown with no interception. He was used to holding the ball and thinking inside the pocket while running offense. That exactly suited the Lions' defense. Though Wilson was sacked no more than twice, the opponents' defensive pressure made many of his passes hasty and inaccurate.

The Broncos trailed 21-0 after the first half. They scored one touchdown in their first drive of the third quarter. The Lions then immediately responded with one of their own. The Broncos again progressed to the red zone and scored a touchdown on a fourth down. Though it was mollified by penalty on guard Quinn Meinerz, the team still had a chance to go for a touchdown on a 4 & goal. However, the Broncos decided to shoot a field goal. Though Wil Lutz made that shot. Adding three points seemed too little for a 21-point deficit and too late when there was only one quarter left of the game.

Other games on Saturday (away teams come first):

Minnesota Vikings 24-27 Cincinnati Bengals

Pittsburgh Steelers 13-30 Indianapolis Colts
