Local authorities across northern China are taking action to limit the impact of snow, blizzards and plunging temperatures. In Beijing, the government took emergency response measures, with officials beefing up the power supply and carrying out hazard inspections. Emergency power generators were also added to villages that have replaced coal with electricity for heating to meet increasing demand.
In Hebei Province, authorities are strengthening daily inspections of heating facilities, carrying out safety hazard investigation and rectification; while in Tianjin Municipality, a highway maintenance team worked around the clock to clear snow from the roads after a strong snowstorm on December 14-15.
