Fighting has broken out between the Sudanese Armed Forces and the paramilitary Rapid Support Forces on the outskirts of Wad Madani, in Aj Jazirah State, southeast of the capital Khartoum. The United Nations says 14,000 people have fled the area so far, and a few thousand have already reached other cities. Local authorities have announced a state of emergency and introduced a curfew.
