A Pallas's cat, also known as the manul, was captured on camera waiting to ambush its prey in Inner Mongolia Autonomous Region of north China.
The cat, one of the smallest wild felines in the world, is known for its thick fur coat and its "grumpy" facial expressions.
Home to the grasslands and steppes of Central Asia, the cat finds shelter in rock crevices and burrows and feeds on rodents, pikas and small birds.
The fur on its belly is about twice as long as that of the back as it often has to crouch on snow to stalk on its prey. Its relatively short legs are better suited to stealth attacks and short stalks than running.
