Eczacibasi wins FIVB Women's Club Worlds title, Tianjin wins historic bronze

Türkiye's Eczacibasi overcame 4-time winner VakifBank in full sets to win their third Volleyball Women's Club World Championship on Sunday, while China's Tianjin Bohai Bank made it to the podium for the first time after beating Brazil's South American champion Dentil Praia.

Eczacibasi defeated VakifBank in a thrilling 3-2 (19-25, 25-23, 25-23, 23-25, 15-9) battle. Serbian star opposite Tijana Boskovic tallied 27 points for Eczacibasi, while Jordan Thompson earned a match-high 33 points for VakifBank.

"The game was very tough and close. Both teams could win, but we are united and reacted better. We are very happy to win the trophy," said Eczacibasi head coach Ferhat Akbas.

In the bronze medal match, Tianjin fought hard to get past Dentil Praia 25-23, 25-20, 17-25, 25-19 to with their maiden medal at the event, with multiple franchise players from the Chinese national team on the field including Yuan Xinyu, Li Yingying, Wang Yuanyuan and others. 

Tianjin had achieved a fifth-placed finish in their previous two trips before Sunday. According to Tianjin's head coach Wang Baoquan, their goal this time was to reach the last four. The players overcame exhaustion, having played on a consistent level for four matches straight in the tournament alongside the ongoing domestic league. 

Dentil Praia's opposite Tainara Lemes Santos scored 32 points. Wang Yizhu topped in the Tianjin squad with 20 points, while three others also scored double-digit scores.
