U.S. Defense Secretary Lloyd Austin said several countries have agreed to jointly carry out patrols in the southern Red Sea and Gulf of Aden to try to safeguard commercial shipping against attacks by Yemen's Houthi rebels. This came after Yemen's Houthis said they attacked two more vessels in the Red Sea. More shipping companies from countries including the UK, Germany and Norway announced that they would suspend Red Sea routes. The move is expected to take a toll on the Suez Canal, which could interrupt the global supply chain. Adel el Mahrouky reports from Cairo.
