Chinese shipping company Huanghai Shipbuilding Co., Ltd. on Tuesday delivered a 8200 deadweight tonnage (DWT) multi-purpose vessel to Mauritius at Weihai, east China's Shandong Province. The vessel named Peros Banhos has a length of 115.70 meters and a breadth of 20 meters. It will be used in logistics transportation among the islands of Mauritius.
At the ceremony, Mauritius Shipping Corporation Managing Director Dineshrao Babajee and Huanghai Shipbuilding's President Zhao Jianping signed a delivery contract. The vessel is an outcome of China-Mauritius cooperation after the 3rd Belt and Road Forum for International Cooperation and the 16th Senior Officials Meeting of the Forum on China-Africa Cooperation (FOCAC) held in October.

Alain Wong, the Mauritian ambassador to China, praised the delivery of the vessel, saying it marks a new chapter in the country's vision of ocean economy development and a milestone in the Mauritian government's objective to further facilitate connections among its islands. He also expressed appreciation for China's consistent support for Mauritius in its full exercise of sovereignty over its territories.

Weihai in east China's Shandong Province has prominent advantages in the ocean economy, and Mauritius is an important cooperative partner of China in Africa. During the event, local government officials of Weihai said that the city will further push more pragmatic cooperation in many areas with Mauritius and other African countries under the Belt and Road Initiative and the FOCAC.
