A new hospital launched trial operations in China's Macao Special Administrative Region on Wednesday. The Chief Executive of the region Ho Iat Seng described the hospital as a significant milestone in healthcare cooperation between Macao and the mainland.

The Macao Union Hospital, or the Macao Medical Center of Peking Union Medical College Hospital (PUMCH), shoulders multiple responsibilities, including high-quality healthcare, developing itself into an internationally influential first-class medical center, and utilizing the expertise and technologies of the top-class medical team at the PUMCH.

This is PUMCH's first venture outside of the Chinese mainland and marks the start of the exploration and practice of operating hospitals under the "One country, two systems" principle.

According to the hospital's official website, it spans over 76,000 square meters of land. The planned capacity is 800 beds and 26 operating rooms.

In the future, advanced medical facilities such as AI adaptive intelligence radiotherapy systems and all-round linear accelerators integrating new irradiation technology for cancer patients will be put into use.
