This painting depicts a variety of plants in a garden, such as the opium poppy, iris, autumn daisy, daylily and dianthus. Butterflies, bees and dragonflies fly among them, creating a bright autumn scene. The flowers are meticulously painted as they are in real life, with each part of their structure clearly portrayed. The brushwork and coloring seem similar to the Huang Quan style. The work has been signed "Yanyan," so some scholars attribute it to a concubine of Northern Song Dynasty (960-1127) painter Ren Yi.
