A volcano erupted on Monday night on the Reykjanes Peninsula in southwestern Iceland, the Icelandic Meteorological Office said. Authorities had completed the evacuation of nearly 4,000 residents from the town of Grindavik. All roads to the town of Grindavik are closed. The authorities have asked the people not to go to the eruption site, and the emergency personnel are assessing the situation. A civil defense representative told CGTN Stringer that no one was in imminent danger when the volcano erupted, and they would get a closer look on how the situation would develop in a few days.
