Graphics: China's supercomputing sector in 40 years

China's first supercomputer "Yinhe-1," which could perform more than 100 million calculations per second, was successfully developed on December 22, 1983. China was the third country in the world to independently design and manufacture a supercomputer.

After 40 years of unremitting research, China's supercomputing power ranks second globally, with 104 out of the top 500 fastest supercomputers in the world, according to the TOP500 supercomputer list updated in November 2023.

The country has seen rapid progress of its supercomputing sector.
