The Loess Plateau in central northern China, is the birthplace of Chinese agricultural civilization. Unfortunately, excessive land reclamation has caused soil erosion, resulting in low crop yields and widespread poverty. In an attempt to improve yields, deforestation has been pursued, inadvertently sustaining the detrimental cycle. How have the local communities managed to break free from that cycle?
