At least 20 people were killed in an attack on Friday night near the Burundi-the Democratic Republic of the Congo (DRC) border by unidentified gunmen, a Burundian government spokesperson said on Saturday afternoon.
Jerome Niyonzima, the secretary-general and spokesman of the Burundian government, said in a statement to the press that the attack happened in Gatumba, Mutimbuzi district in west Burundi's Bujumbura province, targeting mostly women and children.
