The best evidence reflecting the significance of the Belt and Road Initiative is the similar Global Gateway initiative launched by the European Union to promote interconnectedness, said former Prime Minister of Belgium Yves Leterme during in an interview with China Media Group.
"I think the best proof that it was relevant to take that initiative is the fact that [the] European Union now is building a same kind of project of gateway, European gateway. Interconnectedness is key. And what I find of paramount importance as a European citizen in Belt and Road is that it works on the interconnectedness throughout central Asia," said Leterme.
