Traffic at the Minangkabau International Airport, situated in Indonesia's West Sumatra province, resumed on Saturday morning after previously being closed due to the impact of ash from the eruption of Mount Marapi, local online news portal Detikcom reported.

The nearly 2,900-meter-high volcano in the Agam district of West Sumatra province erupted on Friday, according to Indonesia's Center for Volcanology and Geological Hazard Mitigation. The airport was closed Friday afternoon after ash, which can pose a deadly threat to aircraft, reached its airspace.

People around the volcano have been advised to wear masks to avoid acute respiratory infections over exposure to volcanic ash.
