Basketball: Hong Kong to host FIBA 3x3 Olympic qualifying tournament in April

China's Hong Kong will host a 3x3 Olympic qualifying tournament in April 2024, the International Basketball Federation (FIBA) announced in Mies, Switzerland on Friday.

Eight teams per gender will participate in the Universality-driven Olympic Qualifying Tournament 1 (UOQT 1). Only the winners of each gender will qualify directly to Paris 2024.

The UOQT 2 will be staged in Utsunomiya of Japan from May 3-5, before the Olympic Qualifying Tournament takes place in Debrecen, Hungary from May 16-19. The winners in Japan and the top three teams per gender in Hungary will book the berths in Paris 2024.

The Olympic 3x3 event is scheduled from July 30 to August 5, 2024 at the iconic Place de la Concorde, nestled in the heart of Paris.

Also on Friday, FIBA claimed record growth for its 3x3 discipline across TV, digital and events in 2023. The FIBA 3x3 digital channels collected 1.1 billion views across all platforms and have 83 percent increase in new followers (6.1 million) compared to 2022.

In 2023, 3,522 games were played in a total of 169 events, including a record-breaking 23 3x3 Women's Series events, FIBA announced.
