The UN Security Council on Friday passed a key resolution, emphasizing the immediate acceleration of aid deliveries to the distressed civilians in Gaza, but without the original call for an "urgent suspension of hostilities" between Israel and Hamas.

In a recent press statement, the Gaza-ruling Palestinian faction at war with the Israeli army said the resolution "failed to match" the catastrophic condition in Gaza resulting from Israeli military actions in the region, Xinhua reports.

Hamas expressed disappointment at the UN Security Council Resolution and accused the U.S. administration of watering down the resolution, allowing Israel to continue what it described as a campaign of destruction, violence and terrorism in Gaza, according to a statement.

Ismail Haniyeh, chairman of Hamas's political bureau, traveled from Qatar's Doha to Egypt's Cairo for talks focusing on developments in Gaza and efforts to reach another truce in the enclave and a hostage swap.

Before his departure, Haniyeh held a meeting with Iran's Foreign Minister Hossein Amir-Abdollahian, during which the Hamas leader voiced his movement's readiness for a lasting truce in Gaza but made clear that Hamas would not negotiate while being attacked by Israel.

The World Health Organization said on Thursday that northern Gaza has been left without a functional hospital.

The Al-Ahli Arab Hospital's operating theaters are no longer functioning due to the depletion, or complete absence, of specialists, power, fuel, water, food and medical supplies, Tedros wrote on X (formerly Twitter).

"That has left north Gaza with no functional hospital. Only four hospitals operate at a minimum level, providing very limited care," he added.
