"Are you sure those in dark blue are professional football players?" One could understand Chelsea fans' sarcasm on social media as they pondered the horror show unfolding at the Molineux stadium on Sunday night. The deficiencies of the English giants in their attacking endeavors once again came back to haunt them. It was a display of shockingly wasteful finishing, reaching new depths of inefficiency in the most dispiriting manner.
The match, much like the other games this week, kicked off with an intensity that felt like the final whistle was already looming. The pace was frantic throughout. Raheem Sterling had ample opportunities on his own to seal the victory for his team. However, he squandered a glorious chance in the first half, finding himself clean through on goal, and saw another promising opening thwarted by Craig Dawson's well-timed block in the second half.
Nicolas Jackson also had a clear chance to score but struggled to find his footing, losing his balance before he could even attempt a shot. To make matters worse, he let Sterling's clever chip towards the far post roll under his foot, missing a golden opportunity for a controlled finish. Jackson now has more yellow cards than league goals, and the boos he received from his own fans as he left the pitch will undoubtedly further dent his confidence.

While it's true that Wolves may have been fortunate not to have fallen behind earlier in the game, they have demonstrated a knack for stepping up their game at crucial moments. First, Mario Lemina managed to outsmart his marker Lesley Ugochukwu and directed a header into the far corner of the net, securing the first goal for Wolves. Following that, Wolves capitalized on a woeful clearance from Benoit Badiashile, allowing Matt Doherty to pounce on the opportunity and add a second.
In the dying moments of the match, substitute Christopher Nkunku made his Premier League debut memorable by heading in a cross from Sterling. However, this goal served as nothing more than a consolation for Chelsea, offering a glimmer of brightness in an otherwise lackluster performance. Manager Mauricio Pochettino wisely cautioned against placing unrealistic expectations on the French striker, who has only recently recovered from a knee injury sustained during pre-season.
This defeat leaves Chelsea languishing in 10th place, sitting seven points adrift of qualification for the Europa Conference League. On the other hand, Wolves celebrated back-to-back league victories over Chelsea, a feat they had not accomplished in nearly 50 years.

Chelsea now hold the unwelcome distinction of failing to convert a staggering 36 golden opportunities in the league this season, a tally that surpasses all other contenders. With a fourth consecutive away defeat in the league, the club further solidifies its position as the most out-of-form team in the division. This loss marked Chelsea's 19th defeat in the league this calendar year, a record that beats all other top-flight clubs.
After the game, Pochettino once again attempted to uplift the fans and reminded them that despite the current setback, there is still reason to believe in brighter days ahead. But after witnessing such a harrowing performance, one might wonder how on earth Chelsea supporters could possibly cling to optimism.
