Manchester City forward Erling Haaland of Norway and FC Barcelona midfielder Aitana Bonmati of Spain have won the World's Best Football Player awards in men's and women's football, respectively. The International Federation of Football History & Statistics (IFFHS) revealed the winners on Wednesday.

"The Norwegian striker, winner of the UEFA Champions League, the Premier League, the FIFA Club World Cup, the UEFA Super Cup, the English Cup and always in the World's Best Goalscorer ranking, totalized 209 points," IFFHS noted.
This year, Haaland beat Kylian Mbappe (105 points) and Lionel Messi (85 points) – Messi having already won 14 IFFHS awards – to win the prize, IFFHS's ranking shows.
"It is the first ever IFFHS award for Erling Haaland and also for his country Norway," IFFHS added.

In women's football this year, Bonmati won titles in the women's La Liga, Super Cup and UEFA Champions League as part of FC Barcelona Femení.
The Spanish women's national team, including Bonmati, won the FIFA Women's World Cup in August.
She also won the best player awards in the Champions League, the World Cup and the Ballon d'Or in 2023.
"She scored also 25 goals in 2023 and was the head of her team as playmaker and goalscorer in all games," IFFHS noted.
She earned 202 points to top the women's football ranking with "a huge lead over all other players," including her teammate Salma Paralluelo, the youth revelation of the year (64 points), and Australian Samantha Kerr (59 points).

Mary Earps won the IFFHS Women's World Best Goalkeeper award for 2023.
"Earps became the first English goalkeeper and only the 6th woman in the world to win the award," IFFHS noted.
Earps won the Golden Glove award in the FIFA Women's World Cup.
"In the Women's World Cup final, she saved a penalty against Spain, and had a large contribution to the great performance of her team," IFFHS added.
IFFHS also recognized her performances with Manchester United in the Super League. "She won the Golden Glove at the World Cup and finished 5th at the Ballon d'Or (the best result ever for a woman goalkeeper), being also voted as the player of the season in England," it added.

Ederson Santana de Moraes, mostly known as Ederson, became the second Brazilian goalkeeper after Alisson Becker (2019) to win the award.
"Since he joined Manchester City in 2017, Ederson was always ranked in the world’s top 10, but he waited (for) 2023 to receive the consecration of his talent due to the fantastic performance of Manchester City winning all national and international trophies," IFFHS noted.
