Compared to other weaving techniques, Kesi tapestry's defining feature is "threading through while cutting across." It involves using natural silk threads for the warp, to create a grid. Then, colored weft threads are interwoven, according to the desired pattern. At color transition points, the weft threads are cut, leaving star-like marks. This technique has earned itself the nickname "engraving silk."
