In 2020, a very special newborn came into the world: Hanbao, the first second-generation Yangtze finless porpoise to arrive under the auspices of China's captive-breeding program. Now, thanks to the loving care and attention of the staff at the Institute of Hydrobiology of the Chinese Academy of Sciences, he's finally grown to porpoise adolescence. What's more, thanks to Yangtze finless porpoises like Hanbao, more and more is being learnt about how to nurture and protect this precious species.
