Over 135 million domestic tourist trips were made in China during the three-day New Year holiday, an increase of 155.3 percent from the previous year, and a 9.4 percent rise over 2019's pre-pandemic levels, according to China's Ministry of Culture and Tourism.
Domestic tourism revenue reached 79.73 billion yuan ($11.2 billion) during the holiday, soaring 200.7 percent year-on-year, a 5.6 percent rise over the same period in 2019.
Places renowned for winter tourism in the northern and northeastern regions of China witnessed a particular boom in tourism, with ice and snow themed venues and events proving especially popular.
