Roads cut off, widespread damage after quakes jolt Japan

Multiple roads and houses in Noto Peninsula, Ishikawa Prefecture have been damaged after strong quakes jolted Japan's western coast on January 1, killing at least 30 people. Most roads to the hardest-hit areas have been cut off, affecting quake relief efforts. Many houses have collapsed in the Noto region and Hakui City, with about 32,500 homes losing power.
