Japan: 57 dead in quake as houses collapse, triggering mass evacuations

The magnitude-7.6 quake that struck Ishikawa prefecture on New Year's Day caused widespread damage, power outages and numerous casualties. The Noto Peninsula experienced multiple strong quakes, leading to 57 deaths, primarily from building collapses and fires.
