A total of 179 people remain unaccounted for in Ishikawa Prefecture after the powerful earthquake as of 6 p.m. local time Thursday, authorities said.
An elderly woman trapped in a house destroyed by the quake was found and rescued by a search dog after the 72-hour window concluded, Kyodo News reported.
Many people are still believed to be trapped under rubble in the hard-hit coastal city of Wajima, where a major marketplace caught fire and burned down, Kyodo said.
