Harbin earns over $800 million from New Year holiday tourism

Harbin in northeast China's Heilongjiang Province earned nearly 6 billion yuan (US$838 million) from the tourism sector during the three-day New Year holiday.

Renowned for winter tourism, the city has been drawing crowds of tourists with its mix of dazzling ice and snow sculptures, wide variety of winter sports events and entertainment, and the warm hospitality of the local people, making it one of the hottest tourist destinations in China this winter.

According to Tongcheng Travel, one of China's largest online travel platforms, Harbin Ice and Snow World was the most popular destination in the country during the New Year holiday. The city's Central Street received nearly 3 million visitors over the three days, and 100,000 bars of its iconic Modern ice cream were sold.

Other popular tourist attractions and events included the Siberian Tiger Park, Harbin Polarland, Songhua River Ice and Snow Carnival, and the Sun Island International Snow Sculpture Art Expo.
