The Noto region of Japan is suffering severe water and food shortages after a deadly magnitude-7.6 earthquake hit the peninsula, taking a toll on vital infrastructure. The disaster has claimed at least 98 lives, with the number of people unaccounted for in the central Japanese prefecture exceeding 200. About 90,000 households in Ishikawa, Toyama and Niigata Prefectures are experiencing water supply disruptions. Towns across the peninsula are suffering from limited access to running water and food supplies, with interrupted services making matters worse.
