A senior Hezbollah commander was killed on Monday in an Israeli strike targeting his car in the southern Lebanese village of Khirbet Selm.

Hezbollah later confirmed the killing of a "commander" for the first time, naming him as Wissam Hassan Tawil. The group said he died "on the road to Jerusalem" – the phrase used for fighters killed by Israel.

According to Lebanon news agency, another Hezbollah fighter also died on Monday from the Israeli strike.

There's no immediate response from Israel on the development yet.

The Lebanon-Israel border has been witnessing increased tension since October 8, 2023, after Hezbollah fired dozens of rockets toward Israel in support of the Hamas attack on southern Israel the previous day, prompting Israel to respond by firing heavy artillery toward southeastern Lebanon.]

The confrontations between Hezbollah and Israel have killed 209 on the Lebanese side, including 154 Hezbollah members and 35 civilians, according to Lebanese security sources.
