A fire broke out in a building that was former Japanese Prime Minister Kakuei Tanaka's residence in Tokyo on Monday afternoon, local media reported.

The Tokyo Fire Department received a report of the fire just after 3:20 p.m. local time (0620 GMT), public broadcaster NHK said.

The building is ablaze, and firefighters are currently working to extinguish the fire.

Tanaka Makiko, former Japanese foreign minister and daughter of Kakuei, said that she was giving incense sticks in the building where the fire started, Kyodo News reported.
