The Asia-Pacific region should be a pacesetter of cooperation instead of a chessboard for geopolitical contests, said Chinese Foreign Ministry spokesperson Mao Ning on Monday. Mao was asked to comment on a joint statement issued by the United States, Japan, and South Korea on Saturday, in which the three countries expressed their "concerns" over the South China Sea and the Taiwan Straits.
