Kenyan woman Mwamaka Sharifu is known since childhood as the "Chinese girl" – a special identity that changed the course of her life. In 2005, with the help of the Chinese Embassy in Kenya, Sharifu went to study in China. Fifteen years later, having obtained a doctorate in traditional Chinese medicine (TCM), she returned to Kenya to work as a physician. She has also sought to popularize TCM culture in Africa.
