A 24,188 twenty-foot equivalent unit (TEU) ultra-large container ship named "OOCL Valencia" left the waters of the Nantong section of the Yangtze River on Tuesday for a test sail.

The ship is the fourth ship of the same series independently developed, designed and built by a shipbuilding company in Nantong, Jiangsu Province, as well as the nation's first ultra-large container ship completed in 2024.

With a length of 399.99 meters, width of 61.3 meters, and a depth of 33.2 meters, the new vessel possesses a capacity to accommodate 24,188 standard containers, among the largest container ships in the world. The maximum stacking layer is equivalent to the height of a 22-story building.

The 24,188 TEU ultra-large container ship is currently one of the largest container ships on the market as only a few shipyards in the world have the construction capabilities to design such mega vessels.

The ship is the seventh eco-friendly 24,188 TEU vessel in a series of twelve ordered by Orient Overseas Container Line, and also their first new vessel in 2024 that will serve its Asia-Europe service.
