Because of improved connectivity and access to information, it may seem like we are closer than ever. But at the same time, evidence shows we are becoming more and more divided. Opposition and conflicts appear on virtually every issue that matters: from climate change to immigration, from refugees to racism. According to the UN, the majority of the world’s major conflicts have a cultural component. UNESCO was founded on the belief that protecting and promoting culture is essential to achieving global peace and mutual understanding. What’s the role of culture in today’s world? What has UNESCO done to help promote dialogue between different civilizations?
