In Papua New Guinea, 15 people have been killed in widespread looting and arson following protests over a police pay cut. Eight people were killed in riots in the capital, Port Moresby, while seven more deaths were reported in Lae in the country's north. The South Pacific country's prime minister, James Marape, appealed for calm. The government has denied that a new tax has been imposed on the police, and Marape vowed to fix any administrative error that caused the pay shortfall.
