Paintings of Fuxi and Nyuwa, two deities in Chinese mythology, were discovered in Astana Cemetery, near Turpan in northwest China's Xinjiang Uygur Autonomous Region. The place was once under the governance of the Beiting Protectorate during the Tang Dynasty, around 1,300 years ago. The clothing of the two figures suggests a fusion of Han and local ethnic cultures.
