China calls for constructive efforts to ease tensions in Red Sea

00:30

Chinese Ambassador Zhang Jun explained the reason for abstention in the vote of a UN Security Council resolution on the Red Sea tension on January 10, calling for a constructive role in easing the tension and warning against any misrepresentation and abuse of the resolution.

Resolution 2722 of the United Nations Security Council condemns "in the strongest terms" the Houthi attacks on Red Sea vessels since November 2023 and demands the Houthi forces immediately cease all such attacks.

It was adopted with 11 votes in favor, none against, and China abstained with Algeria, Mozambique and Russia.
