Chinese shuttlers advanced across all five events to the round of 8 at the BWF Malaysia Open on Thursday.
In the men's singles, Shi Yuqi will meet compatriot Lu Guangzu in the next round, while Li Shifeng and Weng Hongyang will shortly meet in an all-Chinese round of 16 clash, which secures another quarterfinal berth for the Chinese team.
In the women's singles, Olympic champion Chen Yufei continued her momentum to beat Ratchanok Intanon, who was the first Thai to become women's world number 1 back in 2016. He Bingjiao downed teammate Wang Zhiyi to join Chen in the next round.
In the mixed doubles, Olympic silver medalists Zheng Siwei and Huang Yaqiong beat Rehan Naufal Kusharjanto and Lisa Ayu Kusumawati of Indonesia despite being troubled by flu, joined by Jiang Zhenbang and Wei Yaxin, who clinched a win against local pair Chan Peng Soon and Cheah Yee See.
In the women's doubles, four-time world champions Chen Qingchen and Jia Yifan advanced with no surprise over Danish duo Maiken Fruergaard and Sara Thygesen, while Liu Shusheng and Tan Ning enjoyed a victory against teammates Li Yijing and Luo Xumin.
In the men's doubles, Ren Xiangyu and He Jiting advanced with a walkover when the Indonesian pair of Mohammad Ahsan and Hendra Setiawan quit the match due to the former's injury when they were 1-0 behind.
