The Chinese yew is a relic species that survived the Quaternary Ice Age. It has existed on Earth for over 2.5 million years. Under natural conditions, the Chinese yew grows extremely slowly. It may live for 5,000 years. Deep in the Qinling Mountains, the species has witnessed centuries of stories.
