Thailand is proposing a ban on the recreational use of cannabis just 18 months after it was legalized. Smoking marijuana and its use in other forms for recreation will be banned under a draft bill that was published by the Health Ministry on Tuesday. The country was the first in Asia to legalize the recreational use of the plant.
The reversal meets Prime Minister Srettha Thavisin's election pledge to restrict the use of marijuana to medical purposes due to concerns over addiction. The draft bill calls for canvassing public opinion on outlawing the recreational use of the plant.
