With the opening of the Harbin International Ice and Snow Festival, a multitude of winter tourism highlights have emerged in Harbin, northeast China’s Heilongjiang Province. Taking center stage among these attractions are the adorable "Truant Penguins," affectionately considered to be the ambassadors of Harbin. They have been charming visitors at Harbin Polarland, a polar-themed amusement park.

"The Truant Penguins have become superstars at Harbin Polarland. One of the penguins carries a small backpack, and the way they frolic into the outdoor ice and snow resembles playful students, inspiring their endearing names," explained Zhang Jiwei, a manager of the park.

These penguins line up, waddle out, and engage with visitors, creating an adorable spectacle that draws crowds. The Truant Penguins have consistently been featured as trending topics across social media and short video platforms. Their influence has been solidified with a prestigious award from International Advertising Institute (IAI), a renowned non-profit Chinese advertising and marketing organization, establishing the penguins as one of the most influential cultural and tourism attractions of Harbin.

Despite the chilly average winter temperature of around minus 15 degrees Celsius in Harbin, the local government's data indicates a favorable environment for penguins to leisurely stroll outdoors. Currently, Harbin Polarland holds the exclusive distinction of hosting the only outdoor penguin parade in China. This rare and charming spectacle has evolved into an annual favorite, contributing a unique touch to the winter festivities in this northeastern Chinese city.

In their journey over the years, the footsteps of the truant penguins have traversed various tourism destinations and renowned scenic spots citywide. As they continue to enchant visitors, these delightful penguins remain an integral part of Harbin's cultural and tourism identity.
