A surprise finding in Beiting Ancient City in Xinjiang – sculptures of a cross-legged Buddha. Such a depiction of the Buddha has been found at other archaeological sites in the country, especially in central China, but the ones discovered in Beiting were influenced by ethnic minority culture.
