Mexico on Friday condemned anti-immigrant comments made by the governor of the U.S. state of Texas, Greg Abbott, saying they incited violence and denigrated the migrant community.

"Regarding the comments made by the Governor of Texas, Greg Abbott, to a U.S. media outlet on January 11, 2024, Mexico condemns it and expresses its absolute concern at any type of remark that encourages acts of violence and the dehumanization of the migrant community," the Mexican Foreign Affairs Ministry said in a statement.

The Texas governor said in an interview with "The Dana Loesch Show" that the reason undocumented migrants crossing the border are not shot in his state is because the federal government would bring murder charges against his administration.

"The only thing that we're not doing is we're not shooting people who come across the border, because of course the Biden administration would charge us with murder," Abbott said.

This is not the first time Abbott has come under fire, both in Mexico and the United States, for his anti-immigrant policies.
