A volcanic eruption occurred in southwest Iceland on Sunday, causing molten lava flows to reach the outskirts of a nearby small fishing town Grindavik. This led to some houses catching fire. Fortunately, the town had been evacuated earlier, and there was no immediate danger to the people, according to authorities. This recent eruption is the fifth event of its kind in the Reykjanes peninsula since 2021.
